NARI COTY Awards Eve of Excellence was Friday, February 20th at Belleair Country Club. It’s always a gala and fun event to attend. When we choose the projects we enter each year, we always ask our clients for the projects to join us. This year we entered 2 projects; a kitchen and accessible/adaptable bath remodel. Unfortunately, the clients for whom we did the accessible/adaptable bath remodel were unable to join us. We did win a first place for this remodel and here is their story…
2 years prior, I visited these clients for a different project. Two years passed and they called with a much more urgent renovation; create a barrier free, accessible master bath with style and panache. The wife contracted a neurological disorder, temporarily lost the use of her legs but now got along with a cane. However, the existing bath did not accommodate someone with a mobility issue: a tiny inaccessible shower, unusable tub and vanity were some of the issues.
Structurally, we broke out concrete, reinforced and poured so the entire bath was barrier free. Added glass blocked playing off the existing glass block. Upgrades include subway tile, glass tile accents, “touch” faucets, Moen valves with lever diverters, a rain head, grab bars that looked like sleek accessories, a roll-under vanity with Corian top and touch faucets. These were all aesthetic options which made the bathroom sizzle. Beautiful bath, happy clients.
