Kitchen Trends; what’s your style?
In a recent Professional Remodeler survey, 45.1% of clients want traditional styles in their kitchen; about 28% want transitional and 21.6% want modern. This makes sense when you consider that most homes in the US are traditional but many clients are doing that in ways called “eclectic”—mixing a rustic farmhouse look with contemporary cabinets, for example, or adding in a hutch passed down in the family.
–Granite is still the number one choice for counter followed by quartz and solid surfacing. While most respondents said that this year’s kitchen projects were not larger in scope than in previous years, it seems that clients are asking for a “higher level of detail” in a variety of products and finishes.
–Clients are asking for LED lighting – it is driving the lighting system market. You can do creative things with LEDs, such as adding above cabinets to up light a ceiling or adding under cabinets a few inches above the floor to light the toe kick.
When contemplating a kitchen remodel, ask yourself these questions.
How do you use your kitchen? Gourmet cooking, entertaining, family lifestyle?
What is your budget? Where do you splurge vs save? Again, think about how you will use the kitchen and put your money there. Are you a gourmet cook who wants a warming drawer while entertaining or a large family in need of storage options and a seating area?
Infrastructure, size of kitchen, quality of finishes all will drive the price of the remodel. Cabinetry, countertops and appliances will be your largest kitchen investment. Please do your homework and decide the style you like. Visit decorator showrooms, go on line and cruise Houzz, Pinterest, etc. for ideas and create a file with the various features and looks you like. This will all help in defining your tastes and lead to the selections which best fit your budget when meeting with your contractor
